the military intervention against Iraq

The EU Committee on Foreign
Affairs, Human Rights, Common Security and Defence Policy has
adopted a report and resolution proposal regarding Iraq that
falls back on the arguments officially presented by the United
States and Great Britain in order to justify a military intervention
against that Middle Eastern country, as well as a change in its
regime
Last April 23rd, the EU Committee on Foreign Affairs, Human
Rights, Common Security and Defence Policy unanimously adopted
a report and resolution proposal regarding Iraq in order for
it to be submitted to the European Parliament (EP) for its approval.
Twelve countries abstained. The document, entitled "On the
situation in Iraq 11 years after the Gulf War" [1],
has been drafted by British europarliamentarian, baroness Emma
Nicholson of Winterbourne (Democratic Liberal Party), who is
one of the promoters of the INDICT campaign for the prosecution
of the Iraqi leadership. The INDICT campaign is financed by the
United States and is based in London [2].
The approval of this draft is not incidental. Through the
manipulation and concealment of essential data regarding the
situation in Iraq and the effects of the sanctions imposed against
this country in August, 1990, this document reaffirms the official
British and American arguments that try to justify a military
intervention against Iraq, as well as a change in the Iraqi political
regime. A preliminary criticism of that document as elaborated
by the Arab Cause Solidarity Committee last july may be read
at ACSCweb [3].
