Letter to the President of the European
Commission, Mr. José Manuel Durao Barroso

"Mr. President,
Israel systematically violates
The Universal Declaration of human Rights, ignores United Nations
Resolutions, scorns international law, maintains a 58 year old
merciless occupation of Palestine, and endlessly violates Geneva
IV Conventions.
Israel maintains the Palestinian
population under a collective punishment policy, which results
in enormous suffering. Disregarding the Hague International Tribunal
Court ruling of July 9th, 2004, Israel keeps on building the
separation wall inside the Occupied Territories, which is twice
times taller and three times longer than the Berlin wall. This
wall incarcerates the Palestinians inside unconnected ghettoes
unable to survive.
Now, Israel re-invades Palestine.
The brutal aggression against inmates and security personnel
at Jerico prison, a new violation of international law which
included UK and US collusion, is urgently demanding a just and
coherent answer from the European Union.
The EU cannot turn a blind
eye any longer towards Israel, if its members are to be counted
amongst the democratic and developed countries. An appropriate
answer, in line with the EU principles and laws, is needed right
now. Actors have to be named accordingly: Israel is the occupier
and the Palestinians the occupied. The end to the conflict requires
the end of the occupation of the Palestinian territories. The
occupation is responsible for the current state of affairs in
the area. United Nations resolutions have to be implemented and
any support to the occupier ended at once. Israeli violence cannot
be silenced any longer.
As members of the civil society
and of organisations working in favour of the Palestine people,
we demand that the UE:
- Makes Israel comply with
international law.
- Cancels the Association
Agreement EU-Israel.
- Protests before the Israeli
Government for the Israeli destruction of EU financed infrastructure
and property in the Palestinian territories.
- Demands compensation for
losses and damages caused by Israel in Palestinian territories.
We consider that the European
Commission can only side with international law and human rights
regarding the Palestinian conflict.
We look forward to receiving
your answer,
